On Thursday (6/4), Global Affairs and Public Safety Canada released a statement that it was in the process of repatriating 13 of its nationals, including 10 children.
“The safety and security of Canadians, both at home and abroad, is our top priority,” the statement said.
The repatriation was carried out after the “Bring Our Loved Ones Home” lawsuit filed with the Government of Canada was resolved. The lawsuit asks the Government of Canada to repatriate their relatives or families who are in Syria back to their country.
As quoted from UPI NewsAs of Friday (7/4), there are still more than two dozen other Canadians in the terrible camp, but the Canadian government is currently only able to repatriate 13 people who were there, and has promised to bring back a lot more.
“Ottawa has taken the extraordinary step of repatriating those identified in the Bringing Home Loved Ones litigation and we will continue this work as long as conditions permit,” the statement added.
According to the Save the Children Fund report, so far Canada has successfully repatriated 21 of its citizens from Syria in a four-part repatriation.
“Canada did the right thing by repatriating these children and ending their precarious stay in the camps,” said Save the Children Syria Director Rasha Muhrez.
Currently, it is said that the children and mothers of former camp inmates can once again have dreams and continue their lives in Canada.
