Bisnis.comJAKARTA — President Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen said her recent diplomatic trips to several countries are evidence of Taiwan’s determination to uphold freedom and democracy.
Tsai thinks her decision to visit these countries is the right one. Indeed, this step has opened up opportunities for Taiwan to gain recognition from its democratic partners.
“Through this trip, we are once again sending a message to the international community that Taiwan is committed to upholding freedom and democracy,” he said as quoted by Channel News Asia on Wednesday (4/12/2023) .
Meanwhile, despite tensions between the country and leaders ChinaTsai looked relaxed as she greeted 10 Canadian lawmakers who visited her office in Taipei.
He even cracked a few jokes after the translator said “hello” or hello while translating the Taiwanese president’s opening speech into English.
“He’s a Frenchman,” he said, pointing to the translator.
As is known, relations between Taiwan and China warmed up after Tsai met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles on Wednesday (05/04/2023).
His visit even prompted China to hold military exercises around the island for three days. However, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense revealed new facts that China is still continuing its military activities around Taiwan until Tuesday (4/12/2023).
Around 35 military aircraft and eight Chinese navy ships are believed to still be stationed around Taiwanese waters. Of this total, 14 fighters and five Su-30 fighters even crossed the middle line of the Taiwan Strait.
