Previously, Meta announced that it had started testing the integration of Threads with other social networks on the ActivityPub service.
With this integration, Threads uploads will be able to be seen on Mastodon, as well as other ActivityPub services.
“Starting testing where posts from Threads accounts will be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, via his Threads account, quoted on Saturday (16/12/2023).
“Create discussion threads interoperable will give people more choice in how they interact and help content reach more people. “I’m pretty optimistic about it,” he added.
In his announcement regarding the launch of Threads in Europe, Instagram head Adam Mosseri also confirmed the trial.
Through his Threads account, Mosseri said, later a series of posts uploaded by Mosseri and several other members of the Threads team will be available on platforms other fedivers like Mastodon, starting this week.
“This test is a small but significant step toward making Threads interoperable with other apps using ActivityPub,” Mosseri said.
In the video, Mosseri also explains that it is an open protocol for social networks so that they can “talk to each other.”
“We're committed to doing this so people can find communities and engage with the content that matters most to them, no matter what app they're using,” the Instagram boss said via his Threads account.
