Anthony Ginting wins 2023 Singapore Open quarter-finals

Badminton News: Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, the 2nd Indonesian men’s singles badminton player in the world, earned a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open World Tour Super 750 tournament with his victory over Canadian player Brian Yang.

Anthony Ginting managed to advance to the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open after beating Canadian representative Brian Yang in back-to-back matches 21-19 and 21-11 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Thursday night (7/6) local hour.

Anthony Ginting started the game unfavorably, pressured by fast play from Brian Yang leading 6-4. However, Ginting managed to close the gap to reverse the score in the meantime with an 11-8 advantage.

Brian Yang didn’t give up and continued to hold on to points with 14-14 to 19-19. Luckily, Ginting managed to lock down the opener 21-19.

Anthony Ginting increasingly dominated in Game 2. After falling behind 0-2, the Asian champions immediately took the lead 8-2 at 21-3 in the interval. Ginting continued his momentum after the break to continue adding points to win back Game 2 and secure a ticket to the 2023 Singapore Open quarter-finals in the process.

In the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open on Friday (8/6), Anthony Ginting will meet the 2023 English champion from China, Li Shi Feng, who managed to win the civil war against his team compatriot Chinese national, Weng Hong. Yang through a tight rubber game battle with scores of 21-9, 9-21 and 21-19.

Meanwhile, the only Indonesian women’s singles representative, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, also stopped. She failed to defeat Tai Tzu Ying, Taiwan’s third seed, and lost in consecutive matches 10-21, 11-21.
