World boxing calendar: Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith shakes up on January 13 / Boxing scene
After recent dental surgery, Artur Beterbiev was forced to postpone his August 19 title defense against former world champion Callum Smith. The two will meet on Saturday, January 13 at the Videotron Center, Quebec, Canada.
“It’s a few months later than expected, but I’m very happy that Artur Beterbiev has the opportunity to defend his title in front of the fans in Quebec,” said Top Rank President Bob Arum.
“Artur is in excellent health and I know that Callum, a very talented ex-champion, will be at his best on January 13th,” continued Bob Arum.
“I’m very happy that the two parties have come to an agreement quickly, so that we can continue this great light heavyweight championship fight,” said Camille Estephan, president of Eye of the Tiger. “It will be very hot in January in Quebec.”
Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs), the only current world champion with a 100% knockout rate, has made seven title defenses since winning the IBF title in November 2017. He is coming off a victory in the eighth round TKO in January and then over Anthony Yarde in Yarde’s hometown of London. Smith (29-1, 21 KO), of Liverpool, England, is a former world super middleweight champion according to Ring Magazine and WBA. He won two titles.
