Jakarta: Music streaming platform and other audio content including Spotify has announced that their AI-enhanced DJ feature will be available in 50 countries after being released in the UK and Canada.
For those who don’t know, the AI technology-based DJ feature on Spotify offers an algorithm to present music or songs with comments based on Spotify users’ musical taste data.
Previously, the suggestion feature or the music that was drained by the Spotify algorithm was presented as a playlist called Discover Weekly. Now the algorithm comes with AI capabilities complemented by realistic sounds.

The voice of Spotify’s AI DJ feature quoted on the Engadget site is the voice of Spotify’s cultural partnership manager, Xavier Jernigan. The ability to create conversations with Spotify users is based on generative AI model technology, similar to ChatGPT.
This Spotify AI or DJ function is named X, so users can simply press the X function button that appears on the Spotify app screen. Users can communicate through a voice similar to Siri or Google Assistant.
Spotify claims that what differentiates X or DJ Spotify from the above two digital assistant services is that the audio delivered by AI is not a pre-recorder but uses OpenAI technology, so it is really in time real.
They pointed out that the AI capabilities on Spotify are not like other voice commands, but true generative AI by arranging music or songs in real time. Even though this feature actually looks like the existing Spotify curation feature.
Unfortunately, the DJ AI features on Spotify can only be experienced by paid users i.e. Spotify Premium subscriptions. It is unknown what percentage of Spotify Premium users are compared to the current free version.
