ASEAN Summit, Jokowi promotes partnership with Canada through 4 key priorities

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is pushing to increase the ASEAN-Canada partnership, becoming a strategic partnership to showcase more concrete cooperation. According to Jokowi, the collaboration in question is in the Indo-Pacific context which could serve as a launching project between ASEAN and Canada.

“Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific context can be used as a kick-start project between ASEAN and Canada,” President Jokowi said at the summit attended by ASEAN leaders and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. during the ASEAN-Canada Memorial Summit at the Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh, Saturday November 12, 2022.

Jokowi said security issues in the Indo-Pacific region were of course very important. However, the economic and development issues highlighted are no less important. The former DKI governor noted that there are four cooperation priorities in the Asean Indo-Pacific Outlook (AOIP).

“The Indo-Pacific region has four priorities for cooperation, namely connectivity, maritime, achieving the SDGs and investment trade. Canada can concretely become a partner of ASEAN in the implementation of AOIP,” said Jokowi.

He assured that next year Indonesia will become the ASEAN Chairmanship and will host the Indo-Pacific Infrastructure Forum. Jokowi believes that in the midst of a world that is not conducive, it is even more important to fill it with mutually beneficial concrete cooperation.

“Indonesia invites Canada to participate in the forum,” Jokowi said.
