KOMPAS.com – Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne was distraught after being named Man of the Match against Canada at the 2022 World Cup.
Belgium narrowly won 1-0 against Canada in the 2022 World Cup Group F match at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Ar-Rayyan, Qatar on Thursday (24/11/2022) early morning WIB.
The only goal that took Belgium to victory in their first game at the 2022 World Cup was scored by Michy Batshuayi in the 44th minute.
After the match, FIFA presented Belgian national team captain Kevin De Bruyne with the Man of the Match award.

However, Kevin De Bruyne doesn’t understand why FIFA chose him. Because he felt he didn’t look good against Canada.
“I don’t think I played a great game,” Kevin De Bruyne said as quoted by Metro.
“I don’t know why I got this trophy (Man of the Match). Maybe because of my name,” said the Manchester City player.

Kevin De Bruyne played the full 90 minutes. He recorded two shots, one on target.
Throughout the match, De Bruyne also had 50 touches, 71% completion rate and 4 key passes.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne also assessed that the Belgian national team didn’t show a good performance. He admitted that Belgium were struggling to cope with Canadian pressure.
“I don’t think we played well as a team. We started very badly and the momentum was in Canada, we couldn’t find a way to play beyond their pressure,” De Bruyne said as quoted on the FIFA website.

“There was more space than we thought. In the second half, when we started pushing past the pressure from midfield, there was actually more space,” he said.
“But I don’t think we played a good game today, including me. The only good thing is that we found a way to win,” he said.
The Belgian national team will then face Morocco in the second day of Group F of the 2022 World Cup on Sunday (27/11/2022) evening WIB.
