Brendan Fraser kicked Austin Butler out of the 2023 Oscars thanks to The Whale

Waspada.co.id – Brendan Fraser won the 2023 Oscar for Best Male Actor aka Best Actor through director Darren Aronofsky’s film The Whale. It’s a great victory after decades of career.

“I thank Darren Aronofsky for giving me the creative process and leading me to the incredible project The Whale,” he said, holding up the Oscar.

Afterwards, Brendan Fraser thanked The Whale screenwriter, Samuel D. Hunter, who was called a beacon in the project which garnered three Oscar nominations in 2024.

Brendan Fraser’s victory speech at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA on Sunday (3/12/2023) local time was very emotional. He alluded to the philosophy of The Whale aka Whales when discussing the other nominees.

Open heart

“Gentlemen, you have opened your hearts as big as a whale so that we can see into your souls like no one else can. It is an honor for me to be mentioned with you in this category,” said continued Brendan Fraser.

The actor also thanked actress Hong Chau, his co-star in The Whale who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Variety Monday (3/13/2023) when Indonesia reported, Brendan Fraser recalled the moment of 30 years of work.

“I started this business 30 years ago. It is not easy and I had time to prepare a number of privileges to stop working. I just want to thank you for this recognition,” he admitted. In today’s AP News notes, Brendan Fraser’s career has had its ups and downs.

This 54-year-old Canadian-American actor triumphed in the 1990s through Encino Man, School Ties, George of the Jungle to The Mummy. He also appeared in Oscar-caliber films such as Gods and Monsters, The Quiet American and Crash.

Defeat Austin Butler, the strongest contender

After that, Brendan Fraser’s career sank due to personal issues such as divorce, the death of his mother, and health issues. Now, thanks to The Whale, he’s won an Oscar by beating out strongest contender Austin Butler who won the Golden Globe Awards (Film Drama) and the BAFTAs.

With his 2023 SAG and Critics’ Choice Award wins, Brendan Fraser beat out four other nominees, namely Austin Butler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Bill Nighy (Living). (liputan6.com)
