PEKALONGAN – Representatives of UNICEF and the University of Diponegoro (Undip) visited Pekalongan Batik after observing the activities of puskesmas and the vaccination of infants in the city of Pekalongan, Thursday (03/09/2023).
Meaghan Drynck, senior analyst at Global Affairs Canada, expressed her pleasure in being able to meet people at puskesmas to examine vaccinated babies, including visiting the batik here. “I like it here, I hope I can stay longer in Pekalongan City and be able to explore more,” he said.
Meaghan also bought batik from Larisa Batik to bring back to Canada for her family. Meanwhile, Larisa Batik owner Edywan hopes that this visit from outside can promote batik abroad or publicize it like this visit from Canada. “I hope the Pekalongan city government will cooperate in introducing batik when there are guests from outside the area,” Edy said.
Edy said the stranger’s visits to his home were quite frequent but were unscheduled. There are often personal guests based on hotel recommendations. “A lot of foreign guests come here, there are also visits to study, like Papua for 20 days to study here to develop their IKM,” Edy explained.
Edy mentioned that there was batik written in his place, and a combination of stamped and written batik. “There is only batik here as our effort to preserve batik. But for batik designs, Pekalongan City is a creative city. Any batik business can be done. Jogjanese people ask from doing Jogja batik, Cirebon batik, Lasem batik, solo batik, we can all serve,” Edy said.***
