Canada Clean Sweep to Title 2023 Pan Am Americas Championship

Badminton News: Dong Adam and Nil Yakura won a sensational men’s doubles final at the XXVI YONEX Pan American Individual Championships 2023 in Kingston, Jamaica, with Canada claiming all five titles.

The men’s doubles, between seeded Dong/Yakura and second seeded Kevin Lee/Ty Alexander Lindeman, was the last match of the day.

The second seed trailed for most of the third but raced ahead with five straight points and held two match points at 20-18. But Adam/Yakura held on and won the match 21-10, 16-21, 22-20 in 58 minutes.

It was Dong’s first title and Yakura’s fifth at the Pan American Championships.

Finalist Lindeman also collapsed in the mixed doubles final alongside Josephine Wu. The top seed was beaten by Joshua Hurlburt-Yu/Rachel Honderich 22-20, 18-21, 21-17 which gave Honderich his seventh title and Hurlburt-Yu his third.

Brian Yang

Favorite of the men’s singles, Brian Yang had a little trouble in his last match. That proved too much for Uriel Francisco Canjura Artiga, who is looking to become El Salvador’s first titlist.

The women’s singles saw Michelle Li take the lead against Bei Wen Zhang in a repeat of last year’s final, 21-19, 21-9.

Josephine Wu recovered from her mixed doubles loss in time for the women’s doubles final alongside Catherine Choi. The Canadian representative beat USA pair Francesca Corbett/Allison Lee 21-14, 21-18 for Wu’s seventh title and Choi’s first title.
