Canada records population increases of over one million, highest since 1957

According to the Canadian government, immigration is the main driver of the population boom which has seen the country register more than 39.5 million citizens, up from just 38.5 million in 2021.

“The increase is largely due to government efforts to recruit migrants into the country to address labor shortages,” Statistics Canada said.

In agency records, migration accounts for nearly 90% of Canada’s population growth, which was deliberately done by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government to attract more immigrants to his country.

However, this migration is not only filled by foreign workers, but also by refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries involved in humanitarian crises in their country which overburden the population in Canada.

charge BBCOn Thursday (3/23), an increase in population in Canada will put the country in the top spot of the fastest growing countries among the member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the G7 group.

This is what the Canadian government is doing intensively to fill the gaps in its economy, as a large part of its population is aging, leaving the country in short supply of productive labour.

“If Canada maintains 2.7% annual growth, our population will double in 26 years,” the Canadian government said.
