Canada sees population increase of more than 1 million, highest since 1957

According to the Canadian government, immigration is the main trigger of the population explosion which has seen the country register more than 39.5 million citizens, compared to just 38.5 million in 2021.

“This increase is largely due to government efforts to recruit migrants into the country to address labor shortages,” Statistics Canada said.

According to agency records, migration accounts for nearly 90 percent of population growth in Canada, something Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has deliberately done to attract more immigrants to his country.

However, this migration is not only filled by foreign workers, but also by refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries involved in humanitarian crises in their countries which burden the population of Canada.

Charge BBCThursday (23/3), the increase in the population in Canada will place the country first among the countries with the fastest growth, among the member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the G7 group.

The Canadian government is working hard to close the deficit in its economy as most of its population is aging, which has left the country short of a productive workforce.

“If Canada maintains annual growth of 2.7 percent, our population will double in 26 years,” the Canadian government said.
