Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Canadian national basketball team is certain to play in Indonesia in the group stage of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, according to the results of discussions between the FIBA Council and host organizers .
In a written statement, FIBA said on its official website that the three hosts, namely the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, have selected the teams of their choice to play the group stage in their respective countries.
Each host has the right to choose a preferred team based on commercial reasons. However, this election will not have an impact on the group drawing process which will only take place in April 2023 in Manila in the Philippines.
Besides Canada, who are currently ranked 15th in the world, Indonesia will also have two other teams ranked in the top eight in the FIBA rankings for the group stage matches later.
The arrival of the world's best teams in Indonesia is one of the missions of the Indonesian Basketball Federation (PP Perbasi) to arouse the interest of spectators to watch the FIBA World Cup even if it is not There is no Indonesian national team.
Despite being hosts, Indonesia will not participate in the 2023 World Cup as the Red and White team failed to meet the conditions to qualify for the top eight of the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 last July. Therefore, the arrival of top teams in Indonesia is considered important for the World Cup in Jakarta to remain lively even without the appearance of the Garuda team.

Canada has several players in the NBA. The FIBA World Cup 2023, in which 32 countries will participate, will take place from August 25 to September 10. Indonesia is the host, alongside the Philippines and Japan.
The capital Manila, Philippines, will host the preliminary round matches for four groups, the second round and the final round.
Meanwhile, Okinawa and Jakarta will each host the preliminary rounds of the two groups as well as the second round.
The Philippines as a whole will host 16 teams from participating countries, while Japan and Indonesia will host 8 teams each.
