“The number of more than 12,000 spectators is a record for indoor spectators for a sporting event held in Indonesia. The attendance record for indoor sporting events is also a record for basketball. Before the existence of Indonesia Arena, the largest indoor basketball stadium in Indonesia was at Britama Arena Kelapa Gading Jakarta, with a capacity of 5,000 spectators.

The number of 12,091 spectators who filled the Indonesia Arena for Friday night’s match was the maximum capacity of the stadium used for the 2023 FIBA ​​World Cup.

Even though the total capacity of Indonesia Arena reaches 16,500 seats, these seats have been reduced for coverage and broadcast purposes such as media stands, so that only more than 12,000 remain.

Junas hopes that public enthusiasm will remain high until the end of the preliminary matches at the Indonesia Arena on September 3. He said the committee would continue to try to improve services to the public based on feedback from different parties.

“Of course, our concern is to provide the best comfort to the spectators who attend the Indonesia Arena throughout the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023,” Junas said.

In another venue that is also hosting the 2023 FIBA ​​World Cup, namely Manila, the Philippines has also made history in terms of spectator attendance. A total of 38,115 spectators were present at the Philippine Arena to watch the host match against the Dominican Republic in the preliminary round of Group A. This record number of spectators in Manila is actually also lower than the maximum capacity of the Philippine Arena which can accommodate 55 people. thousand people.

The previous record for a FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup game in an indoor arena was during the 1994 World Cup final in Toronto, Canada, when 32,616 spectators watched the States win -United at SkyDome.
