Canadian Prime Minister Gives Jokowi a Basketball Jersey as a Gift, Here’s the Reason


JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau presented a basketball jersey as a gift to President Joko Widodo at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (05/09/2023) afternoon.

The jersey is red with slight white accents on both sides.

When handed over to the president, the jersey was immediately opened and shown to the media team covering the meeting between Jokowi and Prime Minister Justin.

You can see the number 7 written on the jersey. Apart from that, the name “Jokowi” is written on the jersey.

President Jokowi also looked happy when he was given this gift. He then gave Trudeau a painting by a painter from Yogyakarta, Men Sagan.

The painting is titled “Pedati Train” and depicts a parked cart with two cows nearby.

After exchanging gifts, President Jokowi invited Prime Minister Justin to have a conversation on the back terrace of Merdeka Palace.

The two men then began a bilateral meeting session accompanied by delegations from each country.

That’s when Prime Minister Justin mentioned the Canadian national basketball team participating in the Basketball World Cup in Senayan.

He appreciated Indonesia for warmly welcoming the country’s national basketball team.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how happy the Canadian national basketball team was to be warmly welcomed here by Indonesia. The stadium was full, the crowd was rooting for Red Ane White (the team’s nickname). Canadian national basketball team),” said Prime Minister Justin.

The victory sets Canada up as Group L winners and will face Group K runners-up Slovenia in the round of 16 in Manila, Philippines.
