China facilitates implementation of UN biodiversity agreement

Montreal (ANTARA) – China will facilitate the implementation of the United Nations (UN) biodiversity agreement agreed at COP15, COP15 President and Chinese Minister of Agriculture said Tuesday (20/12). Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu.

Known as the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, the event concluded after nearly two weeks of negotiations with the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biodiversity. biodiversity aimed at preventing the loss of biodiversity.

China actively guides the implementation of the framework’s goals and targets and ensures that relevant decisions are fully implemented, Huang said at a news conference in Montreal.

As the world’s largest developing country, China will uphold its duties and obligations under this framework, Huang added.

China will continue to provide support to developing countries according to its capabilities.

Huang said China is the largest contributor to the financing mechanism of the Global Environment Facility of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, among other developing countries.

Besides financial support, China also provides technical support and training to other developing countries in the field of biodiversity protection under the framework of South-South cooperation.

As president of COP15, China will hold the first part of the meeting in Kunming, capital of China’s Yunnan province, in 2021.

The second part of COP15, held in Montreal, Canada, continued the theme of ecological civilization: building a shared future for all life on Earth.
