Chinese Foreign Ministry Speaks Out on China’s iPhone Ban

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The Chinese/Chinese government has been vocal about the announcement that it will ban its use, including the purchase of iPhones and smartphone brands from abroad.

As is known, several media outlets have reported that China will prohibit government institutions and companies from prohibiting their workers from using iPhones at work.

On Wednesday local time, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) said reports asking workers to stop using iPhones at work were baseless.

“China has not issued any laws, regulations or policy documents prohibiting the purchase and use of mobile phones from foreign brands such as Apple,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.

He also said that “many media outlets” had revealed security vulnerabilities related to the use of cell phones manufactured by Apple.

“But recently, we have seen many media reports about security incidents related to Apple phones,” Mao Ning was quoted as saying by Al JazeeraFriday (9/15/2023).

“The Chinese government attaches great importance to information security and cybersecurity and treats domestic and foreign companies equally,” he added.

Mao also added that all mobile phone companies operating in the People’s Republic of China must comply with applicable laws.

Previously, there were reports that China would ban government officials and employees from using iPhones and foreign-brand devices, citing security concerns.

Report of The Wall Street Journal said Chinese officials are also not allowed to use these devices for work or bring them into office buildings.
