Constitutional Court ruling on presidential and vice-presidential candidates could be proof that young people are leading

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Constitutional Court (MK) will hold a decision hearing a judicial review or substantial revision of the election law regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Indo Barometer Executive Director M Qodari is optimistic that the case regarding the minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates at the Constitutional Court will most likely be granted. Because it is said that a person has the ability to lead if he is an adult because he can think, reflect and make decisions maturely.

“What is adult age for us? If we use the KTP limit, it’s 17, but even if for example we want to add more than 17, maybe it’s age 21,” said Qodari in his press release on Thursday (10/12/2023).

“But just take the age of 17, because at 17 you have the right to vote, which means you are considered to have the ability to take big considerations and make decisions for yourself,” he added.

Qodari believes that the age limits currently set for various institutions are considered wrong, not only with regard to the vice president but also for various other institutions, and therefore they should also be removed.

“So I am optimistic, especially when in reality we see that many regional leaders are young, 35, 40 or even less than 30 years old, Erman Safar, the mayor of Bukittinggi, is 37 years old, then Pandu Kesuma Dewangsa, the deputy regent from South Lampung, is now 35 years old,” he said.

“When Emil Dardak was elected regent of Trenggalek, he was 32 years old, then he was elected deputy governor of East Java, he was 35 years old and I am sure that no one doubts Emil Dardak’s ability to communicate, to think about decisions and be discerning,” Qodari added. .

Qodari continued: This belief developed after seeing the extensive evidence of successful youth leadership in the regions. Additionally, young leaders are also being born in various parts of the world.

“So I think there is too much evidence, let alone evidence abroad. There is Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland who was elected at the age of 34, and then now we see young lead their respective countries, there is Justin Trudeau. in Canada, there is President France and many other examples,” he said.
