Czechia scored a surprise victory over Canada in the World Junior quarterfinals after Jakub Stancl scored with 11 seconds remaining.

Jakub Stancl's goal for the Czech Republic bouncing Canadian defender Oliver Bonk's foot went into the net, giving the Czech Republic a 3-2 lead. It was Stancl's second goal of the match, who opened the scoring with a rushing run in the first half.

With this defeat, Canada was eliminated from the race for the gold medal for the third consecutive year. This is the first time that Canada has not won a medal at the World Juniors since 2019.

It's not surprising to see criticism of the approach Canada took at this year's World Juniors. Teams come to every event expecting to win, and anything less is failure. It will be interesting to see if any adjustments are made for next year.

For the Czech Republic, it is an extraordinary victory. They started 2-0 in the first half, but Canada equalized in the second half thanks to two goals from Matthew Wood and Jake Furlong. Canada outshot Czechia 30-22 in the game, but the puck ultimately bounced back to Czechia in the end.

Canada's elimination had a somewhat negative impact on the way people viewed this tournament. Czechia will try to maintain this streak on Thursday.
