OCD often complicates the daily activities of sufferers.

The International Federation of OCD defines obsessive-compulsive disorder (TOClisten)) or obsessive-compulsive disorder as a mental health disorder that occurs when a person is trapped in an obsession and tries to do something to ward it off, even if only temporarily.

OCD sufferers typically have intense feelings of discomfort, fear, disgust, uncertainty, and doubt when they see something not being done correctly.

According to the UK National Health Service (NHS), there are three main elements of the TOC, namely:

  • Obsessions: unwanted, disturbing and distressing thoughts, images or urges to think
  • Emotions: feelings of intense anxiety or distress
  • Compulsive: repetitive behaviors or mental acts felt to result from an obsession

People with OCD will perform compulsive actions to temporarily relieve their anxiety.

However, they will become obsessed and anxious again, causing the cycle of OCD to repeat.
