Demand a pay rise, 35,000 tax workers in this country are on strike

OTTAWA, DDTCNews – Up to 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employees who are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada-Union of Taxation Employees (PSAC-UTE) have said they would organize a strike.

After voting, the majority of CRA employees who are PSAC members are ready to support the strike which will begin on April 14, 2023.

“Today is the season for annual tax filings. A strike is actually not our first choice, but a strike is necessary to achieve a fair and proper contract,” said PSAC President -UTE, Marc Brière, quoted Thursday (13/4/2023).

Through this strike, the employees of the ARC demanded a raise, the return of the police remote workAnd work-life balance. According to the PSAC-UTE, the salary of CRA employees must be increased by 30% based on the inflation rate of recent years.

In response to this strike, the CRA in its official statement stated that employees have the right to strike. The CRA and its employee representatives will hold a meeting from April 17 to April 20, 2023.

“Although our priority is to reach an agreement at the bargaining table, we recognize the right of employees to strike,” wrote the CRA.

The CRA is committed to resolving this dispute expeditiously through good faith negotiations. Every effort will be made to ensure that a fair deal is reached for employees as well as taxpayers.

For your information, the deadline for filing annual income tax returns in Canada is May 1, 2023. The strike by CRA employees is expected to affect the quality of CRA services for some time to come. (rigs)
