Extraordinary, the son of this fried rice seller wins scholarships to study in Canada and Australia

LAMPUNG – Granata Van Ridho, student at the Islamic State High School (MAN) learned person (IC) East Lampung has received scholarships from 2 top universities, namely the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada and UNSW Sydey University in Australia.

Granata Van Ridho won Advanced Indonesian Scholarship (BIM) National Library of Indonesia 2023 Undergraduate Degree in Foreign Affairs (Bachelor of Geological Sciences).

“An extraordinary achievement. I hope it inspires others. It is proof that madrasas are independent and accomplished,” said Head of Regional Office (Kakanwil) of Lampung Ministry of Religion, Puji Raharjo, quoted on the official website of the Ministry of Religions, Thursday (03/09/2023).

With the success of this Granata, the Kakanwil hopes that there will be other madrasah students who have also made achievements and who can receive quality education abroad.

“In the future, we hope there will be more madrasah students who can continue their studies abroad to compete with other students in public schools,” he hoped.

In this scholarship, Granata has the opportunity to study in Australia for 3 years. He will study geography and is eligible for a scholarship of AUD 47,615 per year. During her studies, Granata will receive a scholarship of 148,960 Australian dollars.

Qualifying for this scholarship, according to the head of East Lampung MAN IC, Antoni Iswantoro, is not easy. Entrants must be national champions of the National Science Competition (KSN).

They must also complete foreign language training at Puspresnas and pass a minimum TOEFL test of 550 or a minimum IELTS band score of 6. Prospective participants must also pass English language teaching services at an institution designated by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Granata Van Ridho has won many achievements. He is also a madrasah activist. While in college, this alumnus of MTs N 1 South Lampung was already active as student council president.

Since 2021, he has achieved feats by winning a medal in the National Science Competition (KSN) organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture in the field of Earth topics. In 2022, the son of a fried rice seller also won a medal at the National Science Olympiad (NSO) at the national level for the SMA/MA level in Earth Sciences.
