Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Scorching temperatures in Qatar caused several Formula 1 drivers to crash after the race on Sunday (08/10/2023). Some runners suffered dehydration, fainted and vomited.

“There were times when the vision was a little blurry,” admitted Lando Norris after the race at the Lusail circuit. The air temperature at the Qatar GP was too high. Runners were exposed to temperatures of over 40 degrees and humidity of over 70 percent. The team had to cool the car with synthetic ice before starting the race, but to no avail.

On lap 27, Fernando Alonso asked on the radio “is there water or something” while passing through the pits, as his seat appeared to be on fire. “I tried, but it’s something that’s not allowed,” explained the Spaniard.

This request attracted attention. However, this is not enough to give an idea of the extreme conditions experienced by the runners.

The first runner to really sound the alarm about their plight due to the heat was Logan Sargeant. The rookie driver told his team he wasn’t feeling well.

Immediately, Williams’ boss James Vowles told him he could not continue. “It’s your decision. There’s no harm in stopping if you don’t feel well,” Vowles said.

Not finishing a race is always difficult for a runner. However, in times like these, safety must take precedence over pride.

With great difficulty, the American runner managed to reach ditch her. There the team had to help him out of the car, as he was completely exhausted.

The 22-year-old rider was taken to a medical center. He was later examined and released after suffering severe dehydration and weakened by flu-like symptoms. Although runners bring water to drink during the race, it will likely be hot and there won’t be much of it.

The other riders, with the exception of Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz who arrived at the finish, managed to finish the race despite great difficulties. When they parked the car, most of them had difficulty getting out.

Williams driver Alexander Albon had to be helped and, like his teammate, ended up at a medical center for treatment for acute heat exposure. Meanwhile, BWT Alpine F1 Team driver Esteban Ocon admitted to vomiting for two laps.

“I felt like I was in a sauna and pushing my body to the extreme. I wanted to get out, that’s what I felt from the 20th lap. With the temperature higher hot, I had to stop,” said George Russell.

The British driver needed an ice bath after the race. “We have reached the limits of the human body,” said Lando Norris, criticizing the conditions they face.

“Several drivers collapsed at the medical center, this shows how difficult our job is,” said the McLaren-Mercedes driver.

Aston Martin Aramc driver Lance Stroll was driving on a straight road and was seen hitting his head from left to right. After the race, Stroll said he passed out in the car. The video posted on Twitter (X) clearly shows what happened to the Canadian runner.

“In this video it seems to me that he is not really conscious. This race was really a disaster considering the number of runners who had health problems,” Stroll said.
