KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian Para-Badminton team won four gold medals at the Canadian International Para-Badminton Championships in Ottawa from June 14-18, 2023.

The four gold medals were presented by Subahn/Rina Marlina (SH6 mixed doubles), Hikmat Ramdani/Leani Ratri Oktila (SL3-SU5 mixed doubles), Qonitah Ikhtiar (SL3 women’s singles) and Rina Marlina (SH6 women’s singles).

In addition to the four gold medals, Indonesia also won three silver and three bronze medals at the Para-Badminton Canadian Open, which is a qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“In this championship, all the players showed their best game so that every game was tight from the first round. I am really very happy to finally be able to give my best,” Leani Ratri Oktila said in a statement from the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

Ratri, who partnered with Hikmat Ramdani in mixed doubles, also shared his struggles at the Canada Para-Badminton International Tournament.

Hikmat struggles with minimal equipment as he loses his suitcase upon arrival in Canada.

“Yes it’s a shame, my double mix partner lost his suitcase when he landed here. All the equipment and match documents are in the suitcase,” Ratri said.

“This incident really disturbed me. Despite this, my partner was struggling with equipment that had to be borrowed everywhere. At the end of the tournament, the luggage was not there, even though we were about to return in our country,” he said. said.

Meanwhile, securing four gold medals is a very proud result as it added more points towards the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Achievements in Canada are also extraordinary as athletes fly there immediately after competing in the Asian Paralympic Games (APG) Cambodia 2023 without returning to Indonesia first.

“The main hurdle that athletes face is of course the issue of recovery, because previously the athletes participating in the APG went directly to Canada and also made the trip,” said Jarot Hernowo. Indonesian para-badminton coach.

“Athletes’ games have grown tremendously because they have been able to compete against the resistance of athletes from other countries who have been our toughest competitors. Three silver medals were presented by Khalimatus Sa’diyah (women’s singles SL4), Leani Ratri/Khalimatus (women’s doubles SL3-SU5) and mixed doubles SL3-SU5 duo Fredy Setiawan/Khalimatus.

The bronze medal was won by Fredy Setiawan and Hikmat Ramdani (men’s singles SL4) and Dheva Anrimusti in men’s singles SU5.

The Indonesian para-badminton team, which is under the auspices of NPC Indonesia, is very grateful to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canada, which has continued to try to locate Hikmat’s suitcase.
