F1 News: Fernando Alonso says he hopes Aston Martin will ‘crush’ Mercedes at the Canadian Grand Prix amid car upgrades.
After the recent Spanish Grand Prix, Aston Martin is behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship standings for the first time this year.
Aston Martin had a disappointing race and finished sixth and seventh thanks to Lance Stroll and Alonso, respectively.
Mercedes, meanwhile, claimed their first two podiums of the season as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell crossed the finish line in second and third.
But after the setback suffered at Barcelona, Alonso is eyeing a further upgrade from Aston Martin to provide some competition.
“Having started quite far I was able to recover but only up to a point. Russell and Checo (Perez) were much quicker than us today so there is a lot of work to do,” said Fernando Alonso. soy motor.
“Looking at the manufacturers, it’s true that Mercedes got important points, but we still got points from Ferrari.
“In Canada we will bring more upgrades, and at Silverstone too – It all depends on which team will bring the upgrades.
“Even then, with normal qualifying, we could have started the race with Hamilton and could have had a better chance.
“I think it’s just one race – and then in Canada we will destroy them.”
