Former Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon arrested in connection with party funding probe

As Dr Berita and Sky reported, former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was arrested on Sunday after police in Scotland arrested a 52-year-old woman for questioning in connection with an investigation into National Party funding Scottish.

A police investigation is looking into what happened to the more than £600,000 (C$1million) raised by Scottish independence campaigners in 2017 which was supposed to be fenced off but may have been used in a different way.

Peter Murrell, Sturgeon’s husband and then party treasurer, was arrested in April. They were later released without charge pending further inquiries as part of the same investigation.

“A 52-year-old woman was arrested today… as a suspect in an ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party,” Police Scotland said in a statement on Twitter.

“The woman is in custody and is being questioned by detectives from Police Scotland.”

An SNP spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sturgeon, the longest-serving leader of Scotland’s semi-autonomous government, shocked the political world when he announced his resignation in February, saying he had become too divisive to lead his country to independence.
