G20 summit in Bali wrapped up last month, Indonesia still receives praise


JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Canada’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Nadia Burger, congratulated Indonesia on the successful presidency of the G20 and the G20 Summit in Bali in November.

“During the G20 (summit), Canada fully supported the event. We, of course, support the priorities and agenda of the G20 (Indonesia) Presidency,” Burger said during a special interview with Antara at his residence in Jakarta, Tuesday, 12/13/2022.

He said the G20 summit in Indonesia brought together Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie and Canadian Minister for International Trade, SMEs and Economic Development Mary Ng.

Burger added that Canada was pleased to see the communications produced after the summit and considered them to contain a number of important outcomes.

“And that will help address a number of issues such as global pandemic recovery, energy transition, digital transformation, digital economy, energy security and food security,” Burger said.

Going forward, Burger said, his party will continue to see extraordinary results from the ongoing summit meetings.

He added that India would be the next G20 chair.

Under India’s leadership, Burger said Canada would also like to see ambitious goals.

Previously, Trudeau had assessed Indonesia as capable of leading the G20 amid difficult circumstances and political tensions.

Trudeau also believes Indonesia was successful in pushing for a final deal at the G20 summit in Bali.

The G20 summit took place on November 15-16, 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali, and resulted in an agreement that was summarized in a document called the Bali Declaration.

The 52-paragraph document contains a joint G20 statement on a number of issues related to food security, energy security, global health architecture and digital transformation.
