Health budget becomes performance-based, here’s the reason – Healthy My Country

Jakarta, July 12, 2023

The government has decided to change the direction of the health budget, moving from a mandatory budget to a performance-based budget. This is based on the amount of obligatory expenditure which does not determine the quality of the products or results obtained.

“The absence of percentages in the health law does not mean that the budget does not exist, but that it is carefully structured on the basis of the health master plan and based on performance according to inputs, results and results we will achieve, because the objective is clearly to improve the health status of the Indonesian people, however high it may be. “So everything is in line with the goal, no waste of money,” explained Ministry of Health spokesperson Dr. M. Syahril on Wednesday (07/12).

Dr. Syahril gave an example of the current situation where 300,000 of our citizens die every year due to stroke. More than 6,000 babies die from inoperable congenital heart defects. Five million children under the age of five suffer from stunted growth, even though the health budget is very large.

“What does that mean? Because before there were no guidelines, no guidelines, but the money was already there. In the end, there was confusion “Copy and paste the planning from the previous year plus inflation, in the end the result was like that, because it was not well oriented,” continued Dr. Syahril.

So what will be done from the 2024 budget year is to first prepare a health master plan, how the roles will be distributed between the center and the regions, what the objectives will be. So everything is more focused. “We hope that there will be an increase in the level of better public health,” continued Dr. Syahril
