Sudirman Cup or Sudirman Cup 2023, Indonesia is in Group B. The draw for the international badminton team championship officially took place on Saturday (3/25/2023).
Reported detikSportAccording to BWF TV, the 2023 Sudirman Cup draw places Merah Putih as the 3/4 seed with Malaysia.
However, at the time of the draw, Indonesia were in Group B with teams from Thailand, Germany and Canada. Meanwhile, Malaysia are in Group C along with Taiwan, India and Australia.
Defending champion China is tied for the top seed with Japan. China are in Group A with Denmark, Singapore and Egypt.
Meanwhile, 2021 Sudirman Cup runners-up Japan are in Group D with Korea, France and England.
2023 Sudirman Cup in China
The 2023 Sudirman Cup will take place at the Olympic Sports Center in Suzhou, China, from May 14-21.
The event will bring together 16 participating national teams. Namely China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Denmark, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Germany, France, Canada, United Kingdom, l Egypt and Australia.
Indonesia last won the Sudirman Cup in 1989, in addition to being the first since holding the team championship. After that, for the 16th time the Sudirman Cup was held, Indonesia weren’t even able to win the trophy.
In the 2021 Sudirman Cup, Indonesia were stopped in the quarter-finals after being beaten by Malaysia 2-3.
