Badminton News: A ticket to the last 16 of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 belongs to professional mixed doubles pair PB Djarum, Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti beating Malaysian representatives, Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See.
Both professional players, Praveen/Melati managed to beat Rio Olympic silver medalist, Chan Peng Soon with his junior, Cheah Yee See in two fairly easy consecutive matches 21-16 and 21-9.
Praveen Jordan admitted he was surprised to win this time, considering last year they didn’t compete due to injury.
“I didn’t expect to win in this match. In Indonesia Open 2022, I suffered an injury,” said Praveen.
“We’ve met them before as well, so we already know each other’s weaknesses and strengths,” Praveen added.
Praveen/Melati will have to go through difficult stages when in the round of 16 of the 2023 Indonesia Open, they will meet the silver medalists of the 2018 Hong Kong Asean Games, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet.
But sadly, another professional Red and White pair, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja had to stop in the Round of 16 at Indonesia Open 2023 when they gave in to South Korean pair, Seo Seung. Jae / Chae Yu jung with 15-21, 17-21.
Young couple Ridya Aulia Fatasya/Kelly Larissa also failed to make their Super 1000 tournament debut when they surrendered to Canadian representatives Catherine Choi/Josephine Wu with a score of 17-21, 12-21.
