New York: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi stressed that political issues should not hinder global solidarity in efforts to achieve peace and prosperity in Afghanistan. According to Foreign Minister Retno, there is still humanity or humanity above politics.

This statement was made by Foreign Minister Retno while participating in the high-level event on global solidarity with Afghan women and girls at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, on Tuesday September 19, 2023.

“We are all here for one purpose, and that is to show solidarity with women and girls Afghanistan. “Solidarity means empathy and real support,” Foreign Minister Retno said as she began her speech during the UN General Assembly week.

He further said that the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan was very worrying.

Indonesia’s contribution to Afghanistan

Indonesia considers the second option to be the most appropriate. This is why Indonesia contributes to Afghanistan in 3 ways, namely:

  1. Humanitarian assistance, in the form of sending 10 million doses of polio vaccine to Afghanistan, in collaboration with UNICEF;
  2. Share experiences with Afghan scholars. As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia shares its experiences with Afghan clerics regarding the importance of women’s education, including through the OIC-organized Afghanistan clergy visits program ; And
  3. Provide education and training for women. Last year, Indonesia and Qatar hosted the International Conference on Afghan Women’s Education (ICAWE) in Bali. The second conference will take place in November this year. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs invited the participants of the meeting to attend this conference.

The High-Level Event on Global Solidarity with Afghan Women and Girls is a side event to the UN SMU Series in New York, hosted by Indonesia in collaboration with Ireland, Canada and the Forum of women.
