TikTok is making big changes to creator funding for people who create viral filters and effects on the app.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — TikTok is making big changes to creator funding for people who create viral filters and effects on the app. TikTok did not hesitate to disburse funds of up to six million US dollars to remunerate the creators of effects Tic Tac regularly goes viral on the platform and becomes a trend in itself.

The Effect Creator Rewards program, first announced in May, features simpler eligibility requirements and an updated payment structure. Apart from this, the program will also be open in many regions.

Reported The edge, Thursday (10/12/2023), through a new program, funds will be provided to creators in several regions, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan and the Philippines. Membership conditions have changed. Previously, content creators had to publish 500,000 videos using this effect.

Now, TikTok requires effect creators to post five filters, three of which are used in 1,000 videos. This can help budding effects creators with a moderate level of success get started without needing a very popular imprint.

This program is the first fundraiser created by TikTok to pay effects designers. Previously, content creators created filters for free. However, the payment structure is still far from meeting expectations.

Effects used on 500,000 videos in the first 90 days after publication will only earn the creator $700, plus an additional $140 for 100,000 videos beyond that amount in the same period. That’s $1,400 for a filter used in a million videos.

There will likely be more content creators able to monetize under the rules of this new program. TikTok lowered its initial monetization bar to require 200,000 videos to start making money.

The payment rate will also become variable rather than fixed. TikTok said this number will depend on certain factors, like the region where the video was created. Whether this will give more or less money to content creators remains to be seen.
