Bisnis.comJAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) delivered a speech ahead of the start of the 13th East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta on Friday (14/7/2023).
Jokowi’s courtesy call was made while giving remarks to foreign ministers (Minister of Foreign Affairs) ASEAN and partner countries, around 09:00 WIB.
Besides the Minister of Foreign Affairs ASEANThe foreign ministers present were the Russian foreign minister, senior Chinese diplomats, the Canadian foreign minister, the Australian foreign minister and the British foreign minister.
Jokowi explained that the foreign ministers’ meeting was in Jakarta to find solutions to the region’s problems in the face of global problems.
“I believe that your presence at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Post-Ministerial Conference is to find a solution to regional problems, to global problems, and not the other way around. Moreover, to compound the problem,” he said, at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, on Friday (7/14/2023).
He stressed that ASEAN should not become an arena of competition and become a proxy for any country.
“ASEAN should not be an arena of competition, should not be a proxy for any country, and international law should be followed consistently. For this reason, we look forward to genuine cooperation and support from ASEAN partners and guests,” he said.
Moreover, according to him, Asean has great potential to become the epicenter of growth, either in the form of an abundance of productive age, as well as abundant natural wealth.
He said ASEAN developing countries need understanding, wisdom and good support from other countries.developed countries and friendly countries.
