World Basketball News: The head coach of the Canadian national team, Jordi Fernández, really appreciated the figure of David Blatt. As a team consultant, Blatt played an important role in helping Canada finish third this time in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
As we know, David Blatt was a former NBA coach. He coached the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014 to 2016. After being fired by the Cavaliers and replaced by Tyronn Lue, Blatt never became a head coach again. He then changed direction to become a team consultant. The New York Knicks briefly used his services but it didn’t last long. Maccabi Tel Aviv also took similar steps before Blatt accepted an offer from the Canadian national team to become a consultant for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander et al.
Responding to Blatt’s role as consultant, Jordi Fernandez did not want to forget him. Blatt’s role is not directly visible in the game, but Blatt is an important character whose role is very broad.
“I want to thank two special people for me. One is my wife Kelsie, and thank you to coach David Blatt. I’m sure you already know him. He is like an angel (to) me and is always there for me,” said coach Jordi.
“I worked with Coach Blatt in Cleveland. He and I had a good relationship. I was the head coach of a G-League team. He was my boss, but obviously I knew how to “where he came from. His personality, his intelligence he was, the way he communicated,” he concluded.
