F1 News: Formula 1 team McLaren has announced that it has filed a request for a ‘right of review’ over the stewards’ decision to penalize Lando Norris at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Lando Norris was given a five-second penalty for “unsportsmanlike conduct” when he slowed down under the direction of the safety car so as not to get stuck in the pits.

The Briton crossed the finish line in ninth place but had to be relegated to 13th place after a penalty was imposed on him.

A statement from the team said: “We can confirm that the McLaren Formula 1 team has applied for a ‘right of review’ in respect of Article 14.1.1 of the FIA ​​International Sporting Code, on the decision of the Stewards to award Lando Norris a 5 second penalty for ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’ under the safety car at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix.”

Article 14.1.1 of the International Sporting Code provides a “right of review” for drivers if “significant and relevant new elements are discovered, which were not available to the party requesting the review at the time of the decision. relevant”.

At the time, Norris questioned the steward’s decision, saying: ‘It doesn’t make sense to me. I was, three seconds, four seconds behind my delta, which everyone does a lot.

“It was too early to fight for what we had planned, so I had no intention of going out in the first place, then I got a call before I stopped.

“I’m 10 seconds behind on my delta, so if it’s because of the delta difference, then maybe most people (riders) should have been given a three or four second penalty in the year. last !”
