Jakarta: The Canadian national basketball team won a crushing victory over Lebanon with a score of 128-73 in the second game of Group H of the 2023 FIBA World Cup at the Gelora Bung Karno Arena in Indonesia, in Jakarta, Sunday August 27. Lebanon, who holds the status of FIBA Asia 2022 runner-up, could not do much in this match.
Both teams outplayed each other scoring in the opening minutes of the first quarter until RJ Barret dunked to make it 12-8. Afterwards, Canada continued to gain points and widen the gap thanks to its dominant performance.
In the second quarter, Lebanon scored the first point with a two-pointer from Sergio El Darwich to narrow the gap to 15-29. However, Canada immediately answered those two points thanks to Trae Bell-Haynes’ three-pointer and the score improved to 32-15.
Until the end of the second quarter, Canada was even stronger with a score of 66-30. This positive trend was capped with Dillon Brooks’ three-pointer accompanied by loud cheers from the fans who filled the Indonesia Arena.
Canada continued to show strength in the third quarter. Five minutes into the game, RJ Barret and Kelly Olynyk managed to score points to make it 83-33 or 50 points behind Lebanon. After that, Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s three-pointer put Canada up to 100 points.
In the last quarter, Lebanon, which counted on Karim Zeinoun and Omari Rasulala Spellman, sometimes troubled Canada. However, the resistance was not enough to shake Canada’s dominant play, which ultimately won by a crushing margin of 55 points with a score of 128-73.
The title of best player of the match went to basketball player from the NBA club New York Knicks, RJ Barret who won 17 points. The match results place Canada at the top of the standings with a collection of 4 points, while Lebanon is in third place with a collection of 2 points.
Then, in the final match of Group H, Tuesday, August 29 at 8:30 p.m. WIB, Canada will face Latvia, while Lebanon will face France in the afternoon.
