List of countries that prohibit the exploitation of TikTok

TikTok Indonesia officially stopped e-commerce transaction facilities on the TikTok Shop channel today, Wednesday (04/10/2023), at 5:00 p.m. WIB. Not only in Indonesia, this feature has apparently been closed in several countries.

The United States was one of the first countries to reject the presence of TikTok. This is due to a number of data security and user privacy issues.
According to Reuters, at least 35 of the 50 US states ban the use of this app. Among them are Alabama, North Carolina and Nevada.

The Afghan government, controlled by the Taliban, has banned the use of TikTok since April 2022. Quoted by Bloomberg, they said that the content contained was not in line with the country’s teachings.

According to Reuters, the Australian government is banning the use of TikTok in all government-owned apps, in line with advice from the Australian Department of Home Affairs. This decision takes effect from April 4, 2023.

Belgium bans the downloading and use of TikTok on telecommunications equipment in civil servants’ offices. In a Politico report, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said his party did not want to be naive about the candidacy. “TikTok is a company that currently has a mandate to cooperate with Chinese intelligence agencies,” he said.

Like other countries, Canada has also blocked the TikTok app on government cell phones since February 2023. Quoted by Reuters, Mona Fortier of the Treasury Board of Canada said the ban was implemented because that the app presented “unacceptable levels of privacy and security risk.” she explained.

The Danish Ministry of Defense has banned all employees from downloading TikTok since March 2023. Cited by AP News, security considerations from the Danish Cybersecurity Center are the reason why the app is banned in the country.

India has taken strong action against TikTok since 2020. Cited by Forbes, India has banned a total of 59 apps from China, including TikTok.
The government imposed the ban after deadly clashes between Indian and Chinese military forces. India is the largest country to implement a complete ban on the app.
