Menpora: Indonesia explores opportunities to become co-host of 2034 World Cup

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, President Joko Widodo wants Indonesia to be one of the organizers or co-hosts.

“We are following developments. Indeed, Indonesia’s positioning is what the president wants, we can at least be co-hosts,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Dito, Tuesday (17/10 /2023).

Indonesia, continued Minister of Youth and Sports Dito, has communicated this intention to friendly countries interested in offering to host the 2034 World Cup. These countries are Australia and also Saudi Arabia.

“We said we want to be co-hosts. I will fly to Saudi Arabia to accompany the president. This is one of the topics that the crown prince of Saudi Arabia will discuss with the president,” explained the Minister of Youth and Sports. .

“We will take stock later. Communication with Australia is also ongoing. Communication with ASEAN countries is also ongoing. The point is that we want Indonesia’s position as a co- host”, underlined the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito.

The World Football Federation FIFA is giving countries in the Asia and Oceania region the opportunity to host the 2034 World Cup. So far, only Saudi Arabia has submitted an official proposal. FIFA has set October 31 as the deadline for interested parties to submit proposals.
