Michael Schumacher’s used F1 racing car for sale

F1 News: Auction house RM Sotheby’s has reportedly sold the Ferrari F1-2000 car that drove Michael Schumacher to his third premier class title.

The Ferrari F1-2000 198 car will be sold by Canadian auction house RM Sotheby’s. The land jet once piloted by Michael Schumacher will be auctioned from April 3-12. Shelby Myers, as one of the top officials at RM Sotheby’s, said it was not the first time they auctioned off Schumacher’s (Sumchery’s nickname) used car.

“RM Sotheby’s has demonstrated that they have an unrivaled track record in auctioning the most important Formula 1 cars, a track record most closely associated with the sale of the iconic Ferrari cars driven by Michael Schumacher, Ferrari’s greatest driver ever. F1 all-time, Myers said as quoted by Carscoops.

“In 2022, we sold the famous F2003-GA chassis no. 229, at Sotheby’s Luxury Week auction in Geneva for CHF 14,630,000, making it the most valuable modern Formula 1 car ever sold.”

“The previous record was held by another ex-Michael Schumacher Ferrari, a 2001 F2001 which sold for $7,504,000 at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Sale in New York on November 16, 2017,” he added.

The story of the Ferrari F1-2000 car being auctioned was originally used as a backup by the Maranello manufacturer. However, Michael Schumacher used to crash during the qualifying session for the 2000 Brazilian Grand Prix. At that time, he got the third starting position and finally managed to take the victory.

Mick Schumacher’s father also brought this car to claim the highest podium in the Spanish Grand Prix. There was a rather dramatic story at the time, in which Schumacher’s position had slipped to P5 due to refueling issues and a leak during the pit stop.

He then continued to race with chassis 198 at the Monaco Grand Prix. At that time, he was at the forefront and was not overtaken by his rivals. But unfortunately the man from Germany couldn’t finish due to a broken push rod. Long story short, Schumacher finally officially became 2000 F1 champion and Ferrari topped the constructors’ standings.
