Jakarta, InfoPublik – The Zonal Shrimp Breeding Ponds (BUBK) owned by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in Kebumen, Central Java, entered the harvest period after being officially operational in early March 2023 .

BUBK Kebumen is the largest modern shrimp pond in Indonesia with a potential area of ​​up to 100 hectares. Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin is expected to participate in the total harvest on Monday (26/6/2023).

General Manager of Cultivated Fisheries KKP TB Haeru Rahayu revealed that cultivation activities at BUBK Kebumen all use intensive technology with productivity reaching 40 tonnes per hectare per cycle.

This figure is far from the average productivity of traditional shrimp ponds which is around 0.6 tonnes per hectare. The harvest yield of 40 tonnes per hectare is also in line with best practices modern shrimp farming today.

Ponds with intensive technology have characteristics such as high stocking densities, good irrigation system using devices such as mills and blowers, and arrangement of pond plots constructed regularly using a high quality tarpaulin.

“The concept of culture that we are developing, according to the leadership of Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, is sustainable culture,” said Tebe – TB Haeru’s nickname – at BUBK Kebumen, Sunday (25/6/2023).

BUBK Kebumen is a modern zonal shrimp farming model that prioritizes ecological balance. There are currently 149 pond plots with an area of ​​1,600 m2 per plot.

The modern pond is equipped with a number of main infrastructures, including water intakes, reservoirs, maintenance plots, wastewater treatment plants (IPAL), laboratories for analysis of water quality and fish health, office buildings, feed warehouses, production facility warehouses, operators’ mess and post-harvest buildings.

“The intake, discharge, tanton and IPAL facilities aim to ensure that the water we take from the sea and that we discharge into the sea remains of good quality. At IPAL, for example, there are different treatments, starting with decantation. , oxygenation so that it returns to normal, pH “normal, and physically it also returns to normal so that when it is released it is the same as before and does not damage the environment”, did he declare.

In addition to using modern, environmentally friendly technology, BUBK Kebumen’s cultivation activities apply the principles of good fish farming (CBIB). The seeds stored are premium seeds produced by UPT KKP, just like the feed.

The use of medications and vitamins to improve shrimp health complies with current regulatory recommendations. Additionally, all field workers wear supportive clothing and equipment in accordance with procedures and do not employ minor children.

Tebe hopes that the success of BUBK Kebumen will become a trigger for modern, environmentally friendly shrimp farming in Indonesia. Cultivation activities at BUBK Kebumen can be replicated by agricultural sector stakeholders and local governments.

“We have managed to implement best practices (harvest yield of 40 tonnes per hectare per cycle). We can show the public and stakeholders that in addition to bringing economic benefits, cultivation also cares environment and we can do it.” he concluded.

“For tomorrow’s harvest which the vice-president will attend, a total of 58 pond plots will be harvested,” he said.
