US Vice President, Australian Prime Minister Arrive in Indonesia to Attend ASEAN Summit

Vice President of the United States (American Vice President) Kamala Harris arrive at Soekarno Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten. Kamala Harris’ arrival in Indonesia was scheduled to attend the 43rd ASEAN High-Level Conference (KTT) in Jakarta.

Kamala Harris arrived at Soetta Airport around 22:00 WIB, Tuesday (05/09/2023). According to the photo shared by the Presidential Secretariat Press Office, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin welcomes Kamala Harris.

Before Kamala Harris, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his companion were the first to arrive in Indonesia. The plane carrying Prime Minister Albanese and his delegation landed at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, around 20:15 WIB.

The arrival of Prime Minister Albanese was welcomed by the consular director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Simon Djatwoko Irwantoro Soekarno. Then, Prime Minister Albanese and his delegation immediately left the airport to pursue other activities.

The arrival of Vice President Kamala Harris and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Indonesia to participate in the 43rd ASEAN Summit Series held today at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

22 heads of state to attend ASEAN summit

For information, a total of 22 heads of state were present, representing 11 ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar , Cambodia and Timor Leste.

Nine partner countries were then invited, including the Republic of Korea, India, Japan, China, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Russia and the United States.

With the addition of two more countries, namely Bangladesh as Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and Cook Islands as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).

Indonesia also invited the United Nations (UN), World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Economic Forum, IORA and PIF.

The theme of Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024 is “ASEAN Issues: Epicenter of Growth”. Through this theme, Indonesia wants to ensure that ASEAN is not only an organization that plays a role for the region, but also for the world.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo also opened the 43rd ASEAN Summit and will chair 12 meetings. The series of meetings include the 43rd plenary and retreat summit, the 26th ASEAN-China summit, the 24th ASEAN-South Korea summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan summit and the 11th ASEAN-US summit.

The other meetings are the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the 26th ASEAN+3 Summit, the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 18th East Asia (EAS) Summit and the 13th ASEAN Summit -Union. UN).
