Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Canada has launched a new passport model with improved security features. The personal information of Canadian passport holders will now be laser engraved instead of printed in ink.

The golden crest is now joined by the metallic outline of the maple leaf. However, the color of the passport remains navy blue. “The new Canadian passport is more than a travel document, it is a representation of our national identity and values,” said Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
He added, “It is a reminder of Canada’s beauty and diversity, and reflects the country’s commitment to welcoming people from all over the world.
Out of respect for Canada’s position in the Commonwealth, the travel document also makes reference to the British Royal Family. However, due to the lengthy design process, the designs featured the coat of arms of Queen Elizabeth II rather than the coat of arms of the newly crowned King Charles III.
The new passport will start rolling out later this summer. The new design of Canada’s passport includes a number of new security features to protect citizens’ identities.
On the inside front cover, the color-changing ink depicts a deer and a snowflake. On the back, the visible passport chip and antenna can be used to confirm passport validity and protect information.
