Badminton News: India's top men's singles badminton player Parupalli Kashyap successfully rose to the top of the 2019 Canada Open World Tour Super 100 tournament with a total prize pool of USD 75,000, which is around 1 .1 billion rupees.
Kashyap successfully recovered from his opening match loss to beat fourth seed Wang Tzu Wei of China 14-21, 21-17, 21-18 in a very close semifinal match that lasted an hour and 10 minutes.
In the first match, Kashyap failed to show his best ability to block Wang's quick attacks and had to drop this match with a fairly close score.
However, Kashyap's game improved in the second game. Several attacks from the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion managed to keep Wang under pressure until Kashyap managed to force a deciding match.
Increasingly confident, Kashyap was more patient during the third match. Even though Wang continued to try to stick to points, Kashyap's finishing was much better at the critical moment to end the deciding match, while also earning a ticket to the 2019 Canadian Open final.
With this victory, Kashyap, who is now 32, improved his record against Wang to 3-0. He had also beaten the world number 30 at the Indian Open in March this year.
Next, in the high-profile match, the sixth seed will face China's Li Shi Feng, who is unseeded in the battle for the men's singles title.
In the other semi-final, Feng managed to beat Japan's Koki Watanabe in a close three-game battle 20-22, 21-10 and 21-11.
The last time Kashyap reached the final round was during the Austria International Challenge tournament last year.
