Jakarta –
Chairman of Committee I of the Indonesian Parliament, Meutya Hafid, appreciated the meeting of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali on Tuesday (15/11). Because the meeting can reconcile the interests of developed countries with those of developing countries and poor countries.
A number of leaders were also present at the meeting, such as Indonesian President Joko Widodo who was accompanied by Indonesian Minister of Economy Coordination Airlangga Hartarto with US President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen .
“PGII is the right time to show commitment to accelerating investment in quality infrastructure in poor and middle-income countries around the world and to strengthening the global economy. This meeting is a form of the real work of diplomacy of the Indonesian Economic Team under the command of the Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Economy, Mr. Airlangga Hartarto,” Meutya Hafid said in a written statement, Wednesday, 11/16/2022.
He agreed with Jokowi’s statement highlighting 3 important things for the future of PGII, namely the importance of being country-driven, the paradigm of collaboration with various stakeholders and support for achieving the SDGs.
Hafid also supports the PGII initiative as it benefits Indonesia’s national interests. Funds included in PGII will later focus on funding a number of projects such as climate change, expanding access to information technology, building health facilities, gender equality.
“The above projects are strategic sectors which are Indonesia’s mainstay in the G20 presidency,” he explained.
He hopes that the government can take advantage of the PGII project to develop, expand and implement information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure. To encourage economic growth and facilitate an open digital society.
The expansion of access to ICTs will have an impact on the empowerment of women. He added that digital transformation would provide opportunities to improve the quality of life for women. However, we still face many challenges including the digital divide, especially the gender gap in access to internet literacy and skills in cyberspace.
“By using ICTs, women have great opportunities to maximize their potential and improve the economic well-being of their families,” she explained.
For additional information, PGII is a collaborative effort of G7 members (US, UK, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada and France) that was first launched in June 2021 during the 47th G7 Summit in England.
