Republic of Indonesia’s entrepreneurship ratio of 3.47%, MP MPR encourages the creation of new entrepreneurs

Jakarta

RI MPR Vice-President Lestari Moerdijat (Rerie) said the great public interest in creating start-ups needs to be encouraged. This is to create various business opportunities that facilitate the process of creating new entrepreneurs in the country.

“The great creativity of the Indonesian people actually encourages great interest in creating startups. This potential really needs to be used in an effort to create entrepreneurial seeds in Indonesia,” Rerie said in his statement, Monday (3/7/ 2023).

According to the Global Startup Ranking, Indonesia is in 5th position after USA, India, UK and Canada. The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs noted that currently Indonesia has only achieved an entrepreneurship rate of 3.47%.

Compared to Singapore, which has around 5 million inhabitants, entrepreneurs represent 8.6% of the total population. Meanwhile, Malaysia and Thailand are already above 4%. Even in developed countries, the average entrepreneurship rate is 10-12%.

“The community’s great interest in starting a business should be immediately utilized to build a better entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country,” Lestari said.

According to him, a number of entrepreneur development programs need to be directed at the right targets in order to accelerate the training of new entrepreneurs.

Dapil II Central Java legislators said that the business incubator program currently being implemented by a number of business institutions, campuses and the Ministry of MSMEs should be implemented consistently.

“Thus, efforts to create new entrepreneurs in the country can be sustainable,” Lestari said.

With this mechanism, he hopes that a number of goals aimed at creating more new entrepreneurs in the country can be achieved.

“This step requires the support of the same enthusiasm and concern from a number of related agencies and institutions, to support the realization of a mechanism that gives birth to new entrepreneurs in the country,” said Lestari.
