Unleashing the fury of animal lovers

Kiska’s death sparked outrage among animal lovers. One of them is Animal Justice, a Canadian non-profit group that protects animal rights under the law. They cry and demand an investigation into the death of this Kiska whale.

“It’s heartbreaking to know that Kiska will never have the opportunity to be transferred to the Whale Sanctuary and experience the freedom she so deserves,” said Camille Labchuk, executive director of Animal Justice, in a statement.

“We demand justice for what Kiska went through at the hands of Marineland,” Labchuk added.

“We call on provincial authorities to release the autopsy results and prosecute Marineland for the unlawful pressures Kiska suffered during her final years,” he said.

Previously, Animal Justice filed a lawsuit in July 2021 against Marineland’s treatment of Kiska. They accused Marineland of breaking the law by failing to meet his physical and mental needs.

The complaint follows a video uploaded by Phil Demers, a former Marineland trainer, which shows Kiska floating nonchalantly and moving slowly.

That same year, Marineland faced criminal charges after Animal Justice filed another complaint alleging the dolphins were forced to perform for entertainment despite a nationwide ban. The charges were stayed in December 2022.

MarineLand has been inspected 160 times since January 2020 as part of the Animal Welfare Service’s work to ensure standards of care are met by law. The amusement park was charged with unlawful use of animals in December 2021 after footage of Kiska banging her head and body against the reservoir wall garnered millions of views on social media.

Good bye Kishka…
