Bisnis.comSOLO – The first match of the 2023 U-17 World Cup took place today, Friday (10/11/2023) at Manahan Stadium Solo and Gelora Bung Tomo Surabaya.

Four teams will compete in the preliminary rounds of Groups A and B on the first day of the U-17 World Cup.

In Group B, there are two matches, namely Spain vs Canada and Mali vs Uzbekistan, which will be held at Manahan Stadium, Solo.

Meanwhile, Spain will face Canada at 19:00 WIB. Against Canada, Spain received positive comments due to their current position.

The Spanish U-17 national team is one of the flagship teams, coached by José Lana. So far, Spain continues to record the best results.

The 2023 U-17 World Cup will be the 11th for Spain. In total, Spain has won the runner-up title four times in the 1991, 2003, 2007 and 2017 editions.

On the other hand, Canada is not a team to underestimate either. This national team has participated in the U-17 World Cup 7 times.

Coach’s comments

Spanish U-17 national team coach José Lana said the U-17 World Cup is an opportunity to develop young talents from the Matador Country to become elite players at the future.

“Our goal is to do the best job possible, preparing players to be the best. It’s also an opportunity for young players to try to break through,” said Lana José Maria while leading the training of the Spanish U-17 national team at Banyuanyar Field, Solo, Thursday (09/11/2023).

Lana also does not consider her team as one of the candidates for victory at the 2023 U-17 World Cup. Because according to her, the match on the field will prove that the best team will become champion.

“No. We don’t consider our team as favorites. All we can do is try to win the match and do our best,” he said.

After facing Canada, the Spanish U-17 national team will face Mali and Uzbekistan in Group B of the 2023 U-17 World Cup.

Canadian coach Andrew Olivieri said the first match of a tournament is very vital.

The first game could determine the next trip for both teams.

“I think facing a good team in the first match can motivate the players. Moreover, it is an event like the World Cup and our young players are participating in it for the first time. We know that complete concentration will be crucial to compete with them,” said Andrew Olivieri.
