Spanish League News: Atletico Madrid will visit Real Valladolid for the first time since winning La Liga at the Estadio Jose Zorilla in May 2021. Diego Simeone is aware of the strength of the opposing team and has asked Atleti to beware of them during the match which will take place on Sunday (30/04) evening local time.
Atlético Madrid currently have 63 points from 31 appearances in La Liga this 2022/23 season and they want to claim their 20th win for the 10th time in 11 seasons under Diego Simeone. But it looks like it won’t be that easy as Valladolid, who currently have 35 points, are a tough opponent at the moment.
Under coach Paulo Pezzolando and buoyed by the impressive performances of Canadian striker Cyle Larin, the hosts have slowly avoided the relegation zone by avoiding defeat in three of the last four games. However, Los Rojiblancos are also well supplied as they haven’t lost to Valladolid in the last 13 games in 2009/10 and they’ve won or drawn in every trip to Zorrilla since 2008.
“Valladolid competed very well and have a more attacking game than before,” said Simeone, quoted by Into The Calderon as an early warning for his side.
“They got great results.”
Atletico will always rely on the duo of Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann in their forward line, with the two forwards both scoring goals against Real Valladolid at the Metropolitano last January.
“While many thought he was not an important player for Atletico de Madrid, we have always believed and still believe that he is one of the most important players in the history of this club,” Cholo explained about Griezmann.
“But we don’t stop looking at the numbers now, he knows we’ll keep asking him, when he’s at his best, he offers a different kind of football.”
