Specifications of the Titan submarine that lost contact while visiting the wreck of the Titanic

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – A submarine named Titan which was carrying five people on a deep sea dive to the wreck of the Titanic disappeared to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday (6/18/2023).

According to the US Coast Guard, the vessel lost contact after about an hour and 45 minutes of diving.

According to information from the Canadian Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the vessel is believed to be located 435 miles (700 kilometers) south of St John’s, Newfoundland.

So far, US and Canadian authorities are still trying to find him.

The submarine is moving at 3 knots (3.5 mph or 5.6 km/h). The submarine is 22 feet (6.7 m) long and weighs 23,000 pounds (10,400 kilograms).

The Titan is a purpose-built vessel of titanium and carbon fiber covered in filaments. Ships that are designed with bolts on the outside prevent the crew inside from opening them.

To open it, you need the help of the surface team by opening the hatch seal.

The sub has four electric thrusters controlled by Logitech game controllers. During dive operations, OceanGate also uses Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite technology.

Titan has several methods of descent and return to the surface, including propellers, floating air-filled tanks, and jettisonable weights to provide positive buoyancy.

With an array of lights, laser and sonar scanners, and externally mounted cameras, the crew can look outside the ship and into the darkness of the deep sea.

According to OceanGate, passengers can also look directly out of the Titan’s porthole, a pressure-resistant window with an internal diameter of 12.3 inches (31.2 cm), making it the largest porthole on a sub. -manned sailor for diving.
